4. JUST THE FACTS:
- Alcohol use among adolescents co–occurs with a range of other
risky behaviors including violence, tobacco use, sexual activity,
drinking and driving and suicide.
- Those who drink, including adolescents, may experience
an increased risk of violence because of reduced physical
coordination, poor decision-making in threatening situations and
isolation while out late at night.
- Alcohol increases vulnerability to victimization above levels of
vulnerability brought about other factors Youths
who had engaged in fighting or other delinquent behaviors were more
likely than other youths to have used illicit drugs.

6. Parent/Community
Coordinators Guide: Not In Our House
Not in Our House: A Nationwide Initiative on Underage Drinking and
Social Hosting is a program
developed to raise awareness of illegal underage drinking and social
host laws in communities throughout the United States. Parents and
guardians, as adults and homeowners, are criminally and civilly liable
for what happens in their home. Whether they own, lease, or rent,
whether they provide the alcohol or not, parents could face penalties
ranging from jail time to fines to civil lawsuits. The Parent/Community
Coordinators Guide offers tips and advice on how to prevent social
hosting, as well as to become educated on or help create local laws.

7. FREE: NIDA Publication Explains the Science of
Addiction
Drugs, Brains, and Behavior: The Science of Addiction was unveiled last
week by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). The 30-page
full-color booklet explains in layman's terms how science has
revolutionized the understanding of drug addiction as a brain disease
that affects behavior and was released in conjunction with HBOs
ADDICTION documentary. NIDA hopes this new publication will help reduce
stigma against addictive disorders.
