Quote of the Week: "Don't smoke too much, drink too
much, eat too much or work too much. We're all on the road to the
grave -- but there's no need to be in the passing lane." ~ Robert Orben

2. Random Drug Testing Not Reliable In Keeping Teen Athletes
From Using
Random drug and alcohol testing does not reliably keep student-athletes
from using. In fact, the mere presence of drug testing increases some
risk factors for future substance use, Oregon Health & Science
University researchers report

4. JUST THE FACTS:
- 1,400 college
students between the ages of 18 -24 die each year from
alcohol misuse
- 70,000 college
students reported cases of sexual abuse because of alcohol
use
- 600,000 reported

5. Coalitions Can Help Reduce Drug Use in the Workplace
Workplace alcohol and drug-related problems cost employers in the United
States $100 billion a year in accidents, loss of productivity and
related problems. The Department of Labor (DOL) says coalitions can help
address workplace substance abuse by educating their community and
businesses about the importance of promoting drug-free policies in the
workplace.

6. Help Prevent Impaired Driving on Halloween
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA),
41 percent of all highway fatalities across the nation on Halloween
night involved a driver or a motorcycle operator with a Blood Alcohol
Concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher. NHTSA has developed a Halloween
Prevention Planner that can be used to develop marketing campaigns to
deter and prevent impaired driving on Halloween.
