1. Study Finds Decrease
in Parent and Teen Discussions on Drugs and Alcohol
At a time when teens are faced with new threats from the intentional
abuse of medicines, the number of frequent discussions between parents
and teens about the risks of drug abuse has decreased significantly,
according to a national study released today by the Partnership for a
Drug-Free America.

4. JUST THE FACTS:
- Secondhand smoke exposure causes heart disease and lung cancer
in nonsmoking adults.
- Nonsmokers who are exposed to secondhand smoke at home or work
increase their heart disease risk by 25–30% and their lung cancer
risk by 20–30%.
- Breathing secondhand smoke has immediate harmful effects on the
cardiovascular system that can increase the risk of heart attack.
People who already have heart disease are at especially high risk.
- Secondhand smoke exposure causes respiratory symptoms in
children and slows their lung growth.
- Secondhand smoke causes sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS),
acute respiratory infections, ear problems, and more frequent and
severe asthma attacks in children.
- There is no risk-free level of secondhand smoke exposure. Even
brief exposure can be dangerous.

5. Bob Quits Smoking
Bob is a real guy, a sheet metal worker from Queens, New York. Bob
smoked a pack a day for 18 years. Bob's quit is different than most.
Unlike most people who try to quit smoking with "will power" alone, Bob
had a plan. Bob agreed to use the EX Quit Plan program and quit smoking
on camera so other smokers could see that success is indeed possible.
You can see parts of his plan on this website. Some of it is common
sense, some of it takes some thought, and none of it is rocket science.
You can also see excerpts of Bob's story and read diary entries from his
smoking journal. If Bob can quit smoking, you can do it, too.

6. Carcinogens Found in Workers After One Night of Smoke
Exposure
Nonsmoking bar and restaurant workers had detectable levels of a known
carcinogen in their bodies after working just one shift in a
smoke-filled environment.
