1.
Cutting Back Doesn't Help Smokers' Health
Even smokers who cut their cigarette consumption in half in a bid to
improve their health tend to die early, according to researchers who say
that only quitting completely will help smokers live longer.

2. Kick Butts Day Offers Opportunities for Youth Advocacy
On March 28, 2007, thousands of youth around the world will join the
fight against smoking by participating in Kick Butts Day, an effort led
by the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids. For community anti-drug
coalitions, Kick Butts Day offers an opportunity to involve youth
members in the anti-smoking effort and to increase awareness about the
dangers of smoking.

3. Caffeine Abuse Seen
As Growing Health Problem
To get a good kick from caffeine, most people need only drink a 6-ounce
cup of coffee, about 100 milligrams. But on a popular pro-drug Web site,
a visitor reported taking seven No Doz tablets, or 1,400 milligrams of
caffeine, and compared the effects to a bad trip on LSD.

6. Puffing on Polonium
When the former K.G.B. agent Alexander V. Litvinenko was found to have
been poisoned by radioactive polonium 210 last week, there was one group
that must have been particularly horrified: the tobacco industry.
The industry has been aware at least since the 1960s that cigarettes
contain significant levels of polonium.
