4. JUST THE FACTS:
Among primary alcohol admissions aged 21 or older,
- admissions for alcohol only were more likely to be White than
admissions for alcohol and a secondary drug (70 vs. 58 percent)
- Admissions aged 21 or older for alcohol plus a secondary drug
were almost twice as likely to enter residential/rehabilitative
services as admissions for alcohol only (20 vs. 11 percent)
- As a proportion of all admissions aged 21 or older, admissions
for alcohol only and admissions for alcohol plus a secondary drug
decreased from 1993 to 2003

5. The Role of Substance Abuse in Intimate Partner Violence
Much of the violence reported in the literature involves intimate
partner violence (IPV) committed by men toward women, a pervasive
problem in a significant proportion of U.S. families. Roughly 1,800
instances of homicide and manslaughter between intimate partners
occurred in 1998, with more than 1,300 of these involving women as
victims.
Intimate partner violence is a major public health concern. Substance
use has been found to co-occur in 40% to 60% of IPV incidents across
various studies.

6. No Outsized
Behavioral Problems Among Cocaine Kids
'Crack babies' were to the 1980s what 'meth babies' are to the new
millennium, but follow-up research has consistently shown that children
exposed to cocaine before birth have no more behavioral problems than
others their age.
