1.  Who's Using Alcohol?

Have you ever wondered how much drinking today's youth actually are doing? Well, a nationally representative sample of 13,627 public and private high school students from all 50 States and the District of Columbia has provided us with some answers. http://www.family.samhsa.gov/talk/alcohol.aspx

2.  Report on State Tobacco Prevention Spending

Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids released its annual report on state tobacco prevention spending, which found that, once again, most states are not funding their tobacco prevention programs at minimum levels recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).  The American Lung Association signed on to the report this year as it has in previous years.  Only four states – Colorado, Delaware, Maine and Mississippi – fund their state tobacco prevention programs at or above the CDC minimum level for their state; Arkansas spends just below the CDC minimum.  The numbers do not include CDC grants to the states for tobacco prevention programs.  To see the full report and other related materials.     http://tobaccofreekids.org/reports/settlements/?tr=y&auid=1312554

3.  Set Rules for Your Children About Alcohol, Tobacco, and Illegal Drugs

Talking to your children about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco, and illegal drugs is an important step in keeping them safe and healthy.

5.  Elan Prialt:  A nonaddictive drug for chronic pain

For the millions of people with intractable pain, Prialt offers 1,000 times the analgesic power of opiates but without the addiction and waning potency. The secret is a synthetic compound modeled after a paralyzing toxin made by a Philippine cone snail. Whereas opiates boost pleasure chemicals, a catheter implanted in the spine delivers Prialt directly to nerve cells to block the transmission of pain signals to the brain.
