will perish together as fools." ~ Martin Luther King, Jr. ******************************* 1. Who's Using Alcohol? Have you ever wondered how much drinking today's youth actually are doing?
Well, a nationally representative sample of 13,627 public and private high
school students from all 50 States and the District of Columbia has provided us
with some answers.

prevention spending, which found that, once again, most states are not funding
their tobacco prevention programs at minimum levels recommended by the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The American Lung Association signed
on to the report this year as it has in previous years. Only four states –
Colorado, Delaware, Maine and Mississippi – fund their state tobacco prevention
programs at or above the CDC minimum level for their state; Arkansas spends just
below the CDC minimum. The numbers do not include CDC grants to the states for
tobacco prevention programs. To see the full report and other related
materials.

drugs is an important step in keeping them safe and healthy. 4. JUST THE FACTS: Reducing Underage Drinking: A Collective Responsibility", found that underage alcohol use costs the nation an estimated $53 billion annually, including:

the analgesic power of opiates but without the addiction and waning potency. The
secret is a synthetic compound modeled after a paralyzing toxin made by a
Philippine cone snail. Whereas opiates boost pleasure chemicals, a catheter
implanted in the spine delivers Prialt directly to nerve cells to block the
transmission of pain signals to the brain. 6. Study Shows How Alcohol Damages Bones Bone loss is an often-overlooked consequence of heavy drinking, but recent
research has illuminated how alcohol takes a toll on the bones 7. FREE: Helping Patients Who Drink Too Much http://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/Science/main.htm A special thanks to Join Together Online(jointogether.org), The Marin Institute, Tobacco Free Kids and SAMSHA for bringing some of this information to us.
